5 years already - and - another successful one for the 2019/2020 ISA Edmonton Section Mentorship Program. A total of 12 mentees finished the program this month. So far, over half have already landed a job in our industry, and we are delighted (and humbled) to hear that they all feel they received tremendous value by participating.
Here's what our mentees had to say about their ISA Edmonton Section Mentorship Program experience...
Would you recommend this program to others?
Once again, it's unanimous! Everyone said "yes"!
What was the best thing about the program?
"Being able to connect with professionals in the field. It's a great way to break into the world of automation if you have no other connections." - Levi Hastman
"Getting to know industry professionals." - Adrian Wong
"The mentor. You get to be in close contact with an industry professional that is open to helping you, give you advice, and suggest opportunities to gain more automation/instrumentation experience." - Tahsin Kabir
What would you say to a student that is considering applying to be a mentee?
"Definitely take this opportunity! There is always something you can learn from mentors. Once you are assigned a mentor, do your homework. Learn about their professional life and ask good questions about how they dealt with setbacks and how they kept moving forward. You never know when you'll need to apply that in your own professional journey!" - Habiba Imam
"Being part of the ISA Mentorship Program is not only a great way to make your resume stand out, but it also gives you the opportunity to network with various professionals and help you build the life-long connections!" - Sua Lee
"It's a great opportunity to get advice on how to improve your resume, make contacts in the industry and get to know the ISA." - Cameron Doering
"This is an excellent program for any student who wants to network and gives a great view of real market." - Dat Nguyen
Can you share a success story that resulted from your participation in this program?
"I was excited to discover that my mentor worked at the same business that I was applying for a job at. I got the job!" - Levi Hastman
"The resume that my mentor looked over definitely helped me get the summer job I just started. Plus, I'm getting more interviews since I finished the program." - Cameron Doering
"Just like any other graduate, my main goal going into the final year of my chemical engineering degree was to land my first full-time job. It wasn't an easy journey especially with the global pandemic that forced many companies to go on an abrupt hiring freeze. Being part of the ISA program and other extracurricular activities has helped to strengthen my interpersonal skills and played a big role in my professional development. As a result, I am very excited to share that I am now working for Nutrien as a Process EIT." - Sua Lee
Good luck to all of our graduated mentees, and a very special thanks to our volunteer mentors - you made a huge impact on our mentees!
