The ISA Edmonton Section is proud to announce that one of our very own board members received the Excellence In Enduring Service award from ISA HQ this past fall at their Leaders Meeting in Montreal - for outstanding contributions to the ISA and its members.
This award recognizes dedicated volunteer service to the Society at the grassroots level. The recipient must be a member and have a minimum of 15 years of service in a leadership position(s) within the society. We caught up with Dave to learn more about his passion for and commitment to the ISA...
What roles have you served on the ISA Edmonton Section Board?
ASET Liaison, Marketing, Database Coordinator, District 10 Liaison, President 2004-2005. For the past several years I've spearheaded an initiative to introduce robotics into both elementary and junior high school curriculums.
What roles have you served for ISA HQ?
District 10 Vice President (4 year commitment between being VP-Elect and actual VP position), I have also served on the following committees: Finance Committee (2014-Present), Investment Committee (2012-Present), Management Division Committee (2 years), and Strategic Planning Committee (2years).
Why is the ISA such an important organization to you?
I have met and continue to meet great people that have become my friends. It has provided me exceptional learning opportunities that have advanced me personally and professionally. It’s the best platform for people of different companies to collaborate to advance our profession as a whole.
How has being involved with the ISA benefited you?
It has put me in contact with many key players in our field and allowed me to perform roles that were beyond my job functions at that particular time. This contributed to preparing me for my next career step. It has also taught me soft skills by working with a wide variety people from our global society.
You recently made a big career move and have started a new position with Summit Valve & Controls. Tell us about your new role!
I recently started at Summit Valve and Controls as President & CEO. Summit is a company that believes in enabling our people to perform at their best. My role as President is to remove barriers, help the teams work through the issues of implementing technology and coach our team leaders to provide industry leading customer service. Summit is a leading distributor of tier one products for industries in Western Canada. We have offices in BC, AB, SK and MB, so I will be able to work on our District 10 ISA agenda while I visit our offices.
