Technical Talk + NAIT PIC Labs Tour!

In the spirit of St. Paddy's, March's Technical Talk is all about green technology, and includes green beer! The event will highlight trending technologies from leading vendors.
We will kick off with a tour of the state of the art NAIT Productivity & Innovation Centre (PIC) labs, then networking, Irish fare and drinks... followed by a keynote address and finally technical table talks.
NAIT PIC Labs Tour
The Productivity and Innovation Centre (PIC) is the newest building on NAIT Campus. The building was designed and built to be our “Front Door to Industry”; our entire focus is on industry solutions. One component is specific to the Automation Industry, primarily in the Manufacturing Automation segment as we have been told there is a skills shortage in this area. This tour will look at our two new PLC programming labs, a Mobile Robotics lab and a Smart Factory lab! We provide robotics, automation and control training and have recently signed an agreement to be a Siemens Mechatronics academy as well. Mechatronics as a discipline is one of the fastest growing in the world but is quite unknown here in Western Canada.
Keynote Address: An Inside Look At Alberta’s Solar Energy Climate
Adam Yereniuk, Owner & Director of Operations, Kuby Renewable Energy Ltd, will give our keynote address.
His presentation will start with an overview of his company (how he got started to where it’s at today), he will also discuss the latest solar system technological developments, and showcase some of Kuby's most innovative commercial projects.
Kuby Renewable Energy is an Edmonton-based solar power contracting company specializing in residential and commercial applications. Adam develops and manages residential and commercial solar PV/energy storage projects throughout Western and Northern Canada. Adam holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Alberta and has been in the solar industry since 2015.
Technical Table Talks
Hear 10 minute technical table talks from our four industrial automation green technology thought-leaders and vendors:
- Tundra Process Solutions - Toshiba VFDs - Using Variable Speed Drives to Save Energy
- Spartan Controls - Engine and Compression Solutions - Spartan's environmental and energy efficiency solutions include patented air-fuel ratio and vent capture technologies that annually remove over 145,000 tons of CO2e emissions while delivering $2.5 million in annual combined fuel gas savings and carbon credits to end users. Air-fuel ratio systems can also bring formally non-compliant engines into national and provincial emissions compliance. All of our products and solutions are supported 24/7 by field service, phone support, local inventory, and extensive education programs.
- AUTOSOL - eACM - AUTOSOL is evolving to the Edge. Introducing eACM - a Linux based software for polling new and legacy field devices on the edge with MQTT. eACM allows you to incorporate IoT technology and features to a variety of applications not typically seen with traditional SCADA, such as water and wastewater treatment, along with green tech like emissions monitoring, solar, and wind.
Attendees will be organized into smaller groups for this portion of the evening.

6:00pm - Dinner / Irish Fare: Irish Stew (traditional or vegetable), rolls, biscuits, tangy coleslaw + cookies and fruit for dessert. Ticket includes one green beer, pop or juice.

NAIT Productivity & Innovation Centre - 10210 Princess Elizabeth Ave NW, come to the 3rd floor (we will be in PIC 340 to for the networking and dinner portion of the evening, then in PIC 315 for the presentation portion of the evening).
