The pipeline ultimately supports the NOVA Chemicals Joffre site (20km east of Red Deer) which is the largest combined ethylene/polyethylene manufacturing site in North America and one of the largest in the world. •Performing the role of Instrument maintenance technician for the pipeline systems in accordance with NOVA Chemicals' Responsible Care Standards.
•Maintaining PLC’s, gas chromatographs, flow meters, flow computers and pump station instrumentation equipment along the pipeline system.
•Conducting monthly meter proving for NOVA Chemicals owned and operated ethane and ethylene meters.
•Interfacing with customers and suppliers in witnessing meter proves in support of pipeline operations.
•Completing Preventative Maintenance programs as determined by the SAP pipeline maintenance program.
•Troubleshooting instrumentation and control equipment failures as required.
•Managing construction of I/E discipline projects including some PLC programing.
•Acting DSR and managing contractors in the completion of maintenance or construction work.
•Interfacing with the Joffre Pipeline Systems Panel Operators to address operational needs.
•Maintaining effective relationships with suppliers, customers and land owners on an ongoing basis.
•Some out of town work will be necessary in this role.
•Providing 24 hour on call service as part of the Pipeline Emergency Response Team on a rotational basis approximately one week out every 6.
•Occasionally responding to calls on a business needs basis on off hours.
•Providing mentoring/supervision to apprentices and other pipeline technicians.
•Maintaining and troubleshooting SCADA telecommunications equipment.
- An Alberta and/or Interprovincial Journeyman Certification in Instrumentation with a minimum 3 years of post-journeyman experience. Dual certification in Electrical and Instrumentation would be a definite asset.
- Maintenance experience in a pipeline, petrochemical or heavy industry plant environment will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and technical knowledge.
- Ability to work effectively with Maintenance, Operations and Engineering disciplines within the Pipeline Team as well as teams at the Joffre site.
- Knowledgeable in most aspects of instrumentation and integration of control systems.
- SCADA knowledge and HVP metering experience would be an asset.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with experience in conflict resolution with landowners and/or industry peers.
- Self-starter able to work independently, while contributing to an integrated and self-managing team.
- A demonstrated commitment to safety policies, practices and procedures.
- A working knowledge of computers, with preference given to Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Good prioritization skills.
- Must maintain a class 5 driver’s license.
- Must maintain up-to-date customer and supplier plant orientations to ensure access to those sites.
